My art acts as an ode to the human desire to preserve the beautiful. Moments where every sliver of light and color feels too good to be true. Whether it be the golden hues of the sun setting on a mountain range, or subtle transparencies and variation of color in a single petal of a poppy flower. My art is an effort to cling to those moments for as long as possible. The color palettes I use in my paintings are found on walks and wanderings outdoors. I am fascinated by the way light and color interact in the natural world, especially organic complementary colors. Orange and blue are two of the colors I use most, initially inspired by orange-tinted clouds interacting with a blue sky.
I love the way the same view can be appreciated from different perspectives. The way a bird can be seen as a small shape in a sky full of color, or can be seen for each nuance of texture in its wings. Inspired by Impressionism, I enjoy capturing the essence of light and color and how they interact. I am influenced by the simplicity of color and rendering within folk art. I combine the use of painterly brushstrokes and impasto techniques with elements of extreme detail to allude to how beauty presents itself in nature.
Painting beautiful things I come across in nature, is an invitation both for myself and the viewer to cling to what is good in the world. An invitation to participate in the simple act of noticing the beautiful.
